A downloadable game

A little 5 hole mini-golf game with a missing-letter twist.

Made from scratch in 4 days for PlayJam #1. Unfortunately the jam was for 3!

How to play:

* Crank to aim

* Hold B or the d-pad while cranking to adjust force

* A to putt

I got the ball in an infinite loop on Hole 3

(1 edit)

The physics system feels really, really good. The inability to control the speed of your shot is not fun with these levels (actually, I just reread the description and I think I'm a dummy that didn't do it properly). The hole detection is frustrating. Determining the correct letter seems like a pointless step, just change it to one regular hole with other obstacles (although it does make for a great title).

I can't stress enough how good it feels to knock the ball around and hit walls and boosts. It's such a strong foundation for a killer golf game. I just read a comment that the dev is working on another, similar game. I'm very excited to play it!

Thanks for playing! Your feedback is super-useful and encouraging for a first-time game developer. I’m currently working on the hole system for the new game - it’ll be far more nuanced and satisfying!

Despite the flaws I ran into while playing the game, I thought it was a lot of fun! Would love to see this expanded on!

Bummer you didn't make the deadline

Hi Jordan! Thanks for taking the time to review my little game.

I think the freeze at the end is caused by a bug in the latest firmware.

Thanks for confirming it’s possible to get stuck in an infinite bouncing loop. I’ll fix this in an update, so if the ball’s been in motion for more than X seconds it’ll offer you a drop shot.

I’ll also add some instructions. If you hold the B button or any direction on the d-pad while cranking, it’ll adjust the force of your shot.

Thanks again for checking this out. Your channel is great and I’ve subscribed.

Also, I’ve got a totally rewritten, much expanded and improved minigolf game to a playable state. Currently adding and testing levels and polishing the graphics.

I’m busy on an exciting (to me!) new project, but hope to revisit this soon.

The plan:

* clean-up code and fix bugs

* finish some elements that didn’t make the cut (trapdoors, moving blocks, angled walls & more)

* fix up & tidy transitions & scoring

* improve graphics

* expand to 9 holes x 3 difficulty levels

* add pass-to-play multiplayer

It will probably be a standalone game with the traditional goal of getting the ball into the hole. No more word games.

It’s not very good.
